Background & screen
Give your recording a little room to breathe. Choose a background, frame your screen, and fine-tune the details in one place.
01Open the settings
Open a recording in the editor. In the toolbar on the right, select Background & Screen. The panel contains the background picker followed by the controls for your screen’s appearance.
02Choose a background
Start with a background that keeps your recorded content easy to see. Use the four tabs at the top of the panel to switch between these options.
Wallpaper
Browse the available wallpaper categories, then select a thumbnail. Pick random wallpaper chooses another image from the current category.
Gradient
Choose a gradient preset or edit its two colors. A quiet gradient works well when the recording already contains a lot of color.
Color
Choose a single background color in the color picker. Use the hex input when you need a specific brand color.
Image
Choose your own image with the image picker. The imported image is saved with the project so it stays available when you reopen it.
Wallpaper and Image backgrounds also offer Background blur. Increase it to soften detail behind your recording. This control is not shown for Color or Gradient backgrounds.
03Frame your recording
Scroll below the background picker to adjust the space around the screen and the shape of its corners. Check the preview as you make changes.
- Padding
- Sets the space around your recorded screen. Increase it to reveal more of the background; decrease it to make the screen larger in the canvas.
- Rounded corners
- Adjusts the corner radius of the recorded screen. Move it to 0 for square corners.
- Shadow
- Adjusts the strength of the shadow behind the screen. A small amount helps separate the recording from its background.
Start by reducing Padding to 0. If background remains visible, check the output aspect ratio as well: its proportions may differ from the source recording.
04Fine-tune the shadow
Open Advanced shadow settings beneath the Shadow slider to tune the shadow’s distance, angle, and blur. Adjust one setting at a time so you can see what it changes.
- Distance — Moves the shadow further from the screen.
- Angle — Changes the direction of the shadow.
- Blur — Changes how soft the shadow edge looks.
Ready for your next recording
A clear background and a little space around the screen can make your next walkthrough easier to follow.
