Cursor effects

Help viewers find the action without letting the pointer compete with it. Review smooth movement and readability together with your zooms.

01Start with the recorded movement

Open a screen recording in the editor and play a section with movement and clicks. Notice whether viewers can find the pointer, follow it to the target, and understand what changed.

Smoothing makes motion easier to watch, but deliberate movement during recording still matters. Keep the pointer near the subject while explaining and avoid circling unrelated controls.

02Check pointer visibility

Use the cursor controls available in your editor to adjust the appearance, then preview on both light and dark parts of the recorded interface. Choose visibility over decoration.

When a click effect is available in your installed version, preview it on the smallest buttons you demonstrate. It should identify the click without obscuring the label or result.

03Review the pointer with zoom

A cursor that looks modest in the full-screen view can become dominant in a close-up. Review the same action before, during, and after a zoom.

  1. Check the pointer on a small button or menu item.
  2. Check a drag from its start to its destination.
  3. Check typing: the pointer should not distract from the active text.
  4. Watch at the final viewing size before settling on the effect.

04Reduce distraction

If the pointer covers a label, reduce its visual emphasis using the available controls or give the interface more room. If the view keeps moving away from your subject, review mouse-following zoom as well as cursor motion.

For a new take, move directly to each target and pause after clicking. Effects cannot make an unrelated action useful to the viewer.
